Swimming at Laurel Hill
Laurel Hill offers a large 50-meter heated pool with a diving hopper, junior pool and separate heated wading pool – perfect if you are serious swimmer or if you are just looking to cool off. We offer competitive swimming, diving and syncro teams as well as swimming instruction for all ages. Summer is special at Laurel Hill and poolside is no different. Bring your own picnic and eat on our playground/picnic area or order lunch at our poolside snack bar. Whatever you choose to do, relax and enjoy the view.
2008 Swimming Program
Group lessons will be offered in five sessions, consisting of four days a week (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) for two consecutive weeks. Friday is reserved for make-up in case of inclement weather. GROUP LESSONS ARE OFFERED ON A COMPLETE BASIS ONLY. No refunds after lessons have begun. TWENTY-FOUR HOUR NOTICE OF CANCELLATION of the series is required to avoid being charged. All lessons are charged on the member’s account.
Complete payment must be received from non-members before the first class to hold reservation.
CLASSES OFFERED
BEGINNER 1: (Ages 4-13) For the “New Swimmer” to become oriented to the aquatic environment and move through the water. Learning to float, breath control, and bobbing. Basic front crawl and back float are taught. Safety skills are also part of the class. A good indication that your child is ready for lessons is if he or she puts their face in the water. If you are not sure, check with instructor before classes start. Class minimum 4, maximum 6.
BEGINNER 2: (Ages 4-13) To continue basic swimming safety skills. Required skills: Comfortable in water, and making forward process with arms and legs. Skills taught: Crawl and rotary breathing, back sculling, and deep water introduction. Class minimum 4, maximum 6.
BEGINNER 3: (Ages 4-13) Introduce all competitive strokes with emphasis on front crawl and backstroke. Required skills: Front crawl with rotary breathing and beginning backstroke. Skills taught: Endurance, stroke technique, breaststroke, butterfly, and diving. Class minimum 4, maximum 6.
ADVANCED BEGINNER: (Ages 4-13) Required skills: Must be able to complete all Beginner 3 skills. Skills taught: Endurance, diving, perfection of all four competitive strokes, and safety skills. Class minimum 4, maximum 8.
MINI-GATORS: (Ages 10 and under) Required skills: 25 year front crawl with rotary breathing, and 25 yard backstroke, basic survival skills, and approval of Mini-Gators coach. Skills taught: Instruction in all four competitive strokes and racing starts. Emphasis will be given to developing speed and endurance. Mini-Gators are a part of the Swim Team and are allowed to swim in home meets and Swim Your-Own-Age Meet when ready.

Non-member participants will be allowed to warm-up and practice 15 minutes before and after their lessons, all non-member participants and those with them must vacate the premises 15 minutes after each lesson.

TEAM REQUIREMENTS:
Swim Team:
(10 and Under) Dive from one side of the pool, Use of proper breathing, One
length crawl, and one length another stroke.
(11 and Over) Swim 50 yards using two strokes and crawl flip turn, Turns will be
taught to strong swimmers.
Diving Team:
(10 and Under) Front dive and one other dive off the low board.
(11 and Over) Front and back dives and one other dive.
Synchronized Team:
(All Ages) Swim 50 yards: front and back crawl, Tread water for 30 seconds.
*In order to qualify for the swim team you must be able to meet the above requirements. Anyone not able to meet these requirements must take the necessary lessons in order to qualify or obtain coaches approval.

Mini Gator Swim Program
The Mini Gator Program is an integral part of the instructional program for swimmers ages ten and under. They are also part of the Laurel Hill Swim Team for meets and related activities. The course includes instruction in competitive strokes, starts, and turns. Emphasis should be given to developing speed and endurance. Water safety skills will be taught. To advance to Mini Gators, a swimmer must have passed the Advanced Beginner course or pass a test given by the instructor which includes: 25 yard crawl, 25 yard back stroke, and basic survival skills, Mini Gators will be offered in three sessions as follow:

Session 1: May 12, 14, 16, 19, 21, 23, 24, (Sat. 28th), 30
Session 2: June 2, 4, 6, 9, 11, 13, 17, 19, 20
Session 3: June 24, 26, 27 July 1, 3, (Sat. 5th), 8, 10, 11
Tuesday, Thursday, Friday
Cost Per Session: $57.00 (member) or $87.00 (non-member)
Fee for all sessions: $130 (member)
*Note: Swim coaches will determine the participation of Mini Gators in meets.
Non-member can not participate in swim meets.
